* Je viens de découvrir cet étonnant livre d'Edna Ferber "Cimarron" 1932 (La ruée vers l'Ouest trad 1960)
Un livre raciste vis à vis des Afro-Américains. Mais on ne sait jamais si l'auteur reflète l'opinion moyenne de l'époque ou prend à son compte les opinions lamentables.
La traduction, avec des termes lamentables du genre "négrillon" reflète aussi le racisme qui pouvait subsister en France en 1960.
Le jeune enfant d'esclave accroché au plafond (cela se passe en 1889) sur une sorte de lampadaire pour éventer les riches planteurs du Sud nous montre l'inhumanité profonde de la base sociale des démocrates de l'époque.
Pour autant, le soucis du héros de défendre le peuple indien, son plaisir de voir son fils se marier avec une indienne, donne 40 ans d'avance à l'auteur, par rapport aux films des années 70.
